Accessibility statement

This statement applies to the Immersive Arts Directory at facilities.immersivearts.uk. The directory is run by UWE Bristol as part of the Immersive Arts programme, and was built and is hosted by Pindar Creative.

The directory exists to help people find immersive production facilities that meet their access needs, so we take its own accessibility seriously. This page is an honest account of where it stands, including the parts that are not good enough yet.

How accessible this site is

We believe most of this site is accessible, and we have tested it with disabled users rather than only with automated tools. In August 2026 an access consultant and two disabled testers — one using the JAWS screen reader, one with low vision — worked through the directory and reported back. Their findings drove most of the changes made since.

You should be able to:

• Use the whole directory with a keyboard, without a mouse.
• Change the size of the text using the A / A+ / A++ controls, without the layout breaking.
• Switch the site to light text on a dark background using the colour control.
• Browse and filter facilities without using the map at all, using the Region and Sort by controls.
• Filter by access requirements — step-free access, quiet space, accessible toilets and nearness to public transport — from the main row of filters.
• Listen to the site with a screen reader, including the number of results as it changes.

The site sets no cookies and loads no third-party scripts, so nothing tracks you as you use it. Our privacy page explains that in full.

How accessible this site is not

We know about the following problems. We are working on them.

• The map itself is not usable without sight. Every facility on the map is also in the list beside it, with the same information and the same filters, so no facility is unreachable — but the map is a visual tool and we have not made the map itself screen-reader navigable.
• On a phone held in landscape, the header and filters still take up more than half the screen, leaving little room for results. On a tablet in landscape this was also the case until September 2026; it now takes about a third. On a phone, turning the device to portrait gives considerably more space. We intend to improve the phone case further.
• The map is supplied by a third-party tile service and its place names and colours are not under our control. In the inverted colour mode the map is shown dark; we have not tested every colour combination on it for contrast.
• Facility information is supplied by the facilities themselves. Where a facility has not told us about a particular access feature, the directory cannot show it. An absent feature means we have not been told about it, not that it is absent from the building.

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) enforces the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018. If you are not happy with how we respond to your complaint, contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, because of the non-compliances listed above.

How we tested this site

The site was tested in August 2026 by an independent access consultant working with two disabled testers, using a screen reader and at a range of text sizes, on desktop, tablet and phone. We have also tested it ourselves using a keyboard alone, with a screen reader, and in Chrome, Firefox and Safari.
